The Falcons got off to a slow start trailing 6-0 off a 12 yard touchdown run by Tampa Bay running back #23. The second period, the Falcons managed to get in the red zone twice on the ground with three carries for 18 yards by Jerry Kelly, one carry for 9 yards by Willie Burgess, and one carry for 36 yards by Jonathan Mann. Derrick Vickers connected with Derrick Gillis for 15 yards, but was called back by a holding penalty.
The Falcons have been scouting for some more size on their defensive line, and Sunday that void was evident. The Bulldogs scored on a QB sneak bring the score to 12-0. Fighting their way back into the game, the Falcon Richard Spencer returned the kickoff for 66 yards. The next play #3 Willie Burgess ran a 22 yard touchdown route, putting the Falcons right back in the game. Jonathan Mann followed with another successful 2 point conversion, bringing the score to 12-8. On the following drive, with a 4 th and 22 count, the Bulldogs recovered a defensive tipped ball for a 66 yard gain keeping the drive alive. Then on another 4 th and long, the Bulldogs managed to get past cornerback Jack Fenalon and score the final touchdown of the night, bring the score to 18-8. The Falcons defense played exceptional. Safety Jonathan Mann recovered the night's only fumble returning it for 68 yards.
What can the Falcons take form this game? “We beat ourselves tonight, we need to be more disciplined and watch the penalties, because like tonight, they can make all the difference in the final score.” Safety Jonathan Mann said.
The good news for the Falcons is they recently acquired a new 275 lb Defensive Lineman. His name has not yet been released, but Falcons CEO assures he will be a factor for next weeks game against the Cardinals.
The Cardinals have been unstoppable this season, and have already defeated the Falcons once. The Falcons have what it takes to hand them their first loss. We will see what happens on Saturday.
Go Falcons!
